Litigation Specialist

Job Description:

We have a very exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual looking to further their career in residential mortgages and broaden their understanding of the mortgage life cycle.

Pepper UK is one of the leading specialist loan servicing companies in the UK and we are currently looking for a Litigation Specialist with proven experience in customer service and liaising with solicitors in a mortgage or collections context.

This permanent, full-time vacancy will give the candidate the opportunity to manage the delivery of the litigation process via liaison with the appointed solicitors. The successful candidate will also have regular interactions with our third-party stakeholders to ensure the litigation process is proceeding satisfactorily, whilst at all times adhering to the agreed policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will have a good foundation and understanding of the life cycle of residential mortgages and a keen interest to learn more with a minimum of 1 years’ experience in a residential mortgage related position.

As a Litigation Specialist, your main responsibilities will be:

• Providing support with the training of new starters and apprentices
• Assisting with monitoring the performance and auditing of external solicitor
• Attending review meetings with external solicitors and providing input
• Assisting senior and manager to collate information for instructions to solicitors particularly on complex or contentious cases
• Drafting letters to solicitors or customers in relation to legal issues for senior / manager approval
• Training to obtain mandate to be able to Review and approve payments to third parties and to obtain mandate to be able to refer cases to senior management with recommendations backed by rationales
• Making decisions on the progression of litigation, particularly standard cases, in accordance with documented
• Assist with the review of procedures and training material
• Assisting manager and senior with a small portfolio of complex cases and progressing them appropriately
• Learning requirements for supervision of late shifts on a rota basis
• Supporting manager and senior as a point of reference for the arrears and litigation and primary servicing teams in relation to technical questions
• Assisting Managers and Senior Specialists with monthly/ad hoc administrative tasks

Essential Skills:

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Extensive knowledge of the mortgage possession litigation process and land law in England and Wales.
• Knowledge of mortgage possession litigation in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
• Sound knowledge of the operation of mortgages and the regulation of secured lending in the UK, including the Consumer Credit Act and MCOB.
• Experience of monitoring third party performance.
• Analyses problems, thinks creatively, and makes effective decisions in the appropriate timescale.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to turn ill-defined opportunities and problems into clear strategic paths.
• Demonstrates a good understanding of regulatory requirements and the impact these have on the business.
• Evidences the ability to effectively relate to customer needs, and ensures, wherever possible within the parameters of the role, that third party suppliers do likewise.
• Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
• Able to apply consideration to potential outcomes and to make decisions within mandate.
• Fully appreciates and consistently adheres to company compliance procedures and standards for their role.
