Job Description

As part of our continuing expansion MCRactive, are now looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and hard-working Widening Participation Manager to join our team on a 2 year fixed- term contract with the potential to be extended for a further year.

The role is full time (35 hours per week) however requests for part time hours or job share will be considered.

Your New Role

Joining our team as a Widening Participation Manager, you lead the development of Manchester’s aspirations around sport and physical activity-related activities that can support the health, well-being and development of Manchester’s diverse communities, with a particular focus on our communities of interest within the city. Other duties include:

  • Lead the strategic vision and oversight for Manchester Active’s aspirations to harness the power of sport and physical activity to improve health and well-being.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Manchester, Greater Manchester and nationally to ensure that developments and concepts in the area of sport and physical activity for development support Manchester’s needs.
  • Collate qualitative and quantitative information as required and lead appropriate analysis and options appraisals to support robust decision-making.
  • Ensure engagement in Manchester’s communities, using our Manchester approach, informs sport and physical activity for development commissioning and delivery.
  • Assume the role of final editor on proposals, business cases, reports and funding bids, as required.
  • Liaise with and support evaluation partners in the sphere of sport and physical activity for development and contribute to learning both locally and nationally.
  • With the Marcomms Manager, to support the delivery of campaigns and social movements around this area of work.

As the ideal Widening Participation Manager, you will have experience in shaping and delivering programmes of work and strategy’s that align to widening participation from a variety of sectors. Key to the success of this role will be the experience of influencing decision makers to ensure the likes of policy, provision and access are not only accessible but relevant, appropriate and achievable to all.

The key to this role is a level of understanding of our city and the communities that people live in and the ability to distinguish barriers that prevent participation and have experience and knowledge of how to overcome them locally and on mass.
