Job Description

The Producer (Community and Inclusion) will have a passion for social inclusion, a talent for producing theatre, a track record of championing artists, an interest in community engagement and a strong commitment to inclusivity, relevance, and environmental responsibilities.

The post-holder will produce both professional and participatory projects from design to delivery; support fundraising; manage and develop strategic relationships with relevant external agencies; manage freelance staff and practitioners in achieving project objectives, encourage participants to find creative progression routes and establish pathways for participants and young people.

Job Purpose

You will work across the organisation to deliver Royal & Derngate’s artistic vision by helping to create our People’s Panel and Creative Council and ensuring they are fully integrated into all the organisations work, to make sure access and inclusion lie at the heart of Royal & Derngate’s practice. You will also work alongside the Creative Learning Associate to ensure that local artists and companies are championed in the creation of their work.

Essential Skills


  • Experience in theatre production, with a confident understanding of a wide range of producing processes including production, touring and project management
  • Contractual preparation and negotiation
  • Experience of applying for and managing publicly or trust funded projects.
  • Evidenced and practical relationships with venues, companies, agencies, and organisations within the subsidised sector


  • Knowledge of UK regional theatre sector and current trends
  • Familiarity with funding structures and policies
  • A good understanding of the processes required to develop new work
  • An appreciation of the technical aspects of theatre production


  • Ability to work with artists at all stages of work
  • A strong track record of being able to manage a varied workload and deliver work under pressure and an ability to work on one’s own initiative
  • Proven ability to sustain positive internal and external relationships over a significant period
  • Excellent project management skills
  • IT literate (e.g., Word, Excel, Databases, Artifax, Tessitura)


Desired Skills


  • Working with UK Theatre, Musicians Union, Equity, and other industry specific union agreements
  • Experience of working in a producing theatre, arts centre, or touring company
  • Working knowledge of commissions process and experience of negotiating contracts
  • An interest in the Creative Learning and Artist Development work
  • Preparing evaluation reports for funders


  • Knowledge of international touring
  • Understanding of theatre management
  • Interest in emerging artists
  • Networking, marketing, and social media campaigns
