Job Description

As part of the UK&I PUMA business, you'll gain unique industry exposure, work on amazing projects and be part of a team of experts sharing their knowledge. You will live and breathe the brand, rep the product and work with like-minded people who are passionate about what they do.

If you love fashion and retail and want to gain a real understanding of how products make it onto our shelves, this opportunity with Puma UK is just for you.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain an overall understanding of merchandising through working with every area of the business and with all team members, but don't confuse this with a visual merchandising placement!

Puma UK's operation is purely a wholesale operation, and the merchandisers select the correct products from the whole international range for the UK market. This requires an awareness of trends, and you will produce monthly product and trend reports for distribution. You must also have an awareness of markets, competitor information and innovation in the market, and you will undertake a review of competitors’ activity in terms of product, quality, availability and retail support.

You will work closely with the sales team and buyers to forecast demand, plan manufacturing and get the ordering right. This will give you an insight into the function of the Supply, Planning & Purchasing Team and its relation to the Merchandising Department.

Ultimately, you will work across the footwear, apparel, and team sports departments producing reports and analysing the ranges. This will include ensuring they have the right stock in the right amounts and researching competitors to see how/ what they are doing.

You will also assist with the implementation of product launches. This involves sourcing samples, setting up displays, travelling to the showrooms and showcasing the range to retail buyers.

You will work closely with the Merchandise Managers and the Merchandise Assistants and will get involved with administrative support. Finally, you will assist in the compilation of a best practice document after having gained experience in all areas of product merchandising.

Essential Skills

Applicants must be-

  • Ideally, you will be a current student on a fashion-related business, marketing or retail degree course looking to undertake your sandwich placement in 2022-2023
  • You will be academically strong in Maths/science disciplines (confidence with numbers-codes and data referencing)
  • You will be organised, hardworking, confident, and able to plan and priorities your workload during busy times.
  • You will need to be able to network (internally and externally), work in a team and be able to work independently/use your own initiative to get tasks completed.
  • You will have well-developed problem-solving skills, and the ability to make decisions with conflicting information.
  • Due to the analytical nature of the role, strong excel skills are essential
  • Finally, you will be commercially aware with an active interest in both Sports and Sportstyle

Whilst due to Covid-19, PUMA UK staff members are currently adopting a hybrid working arrangement (50/50), ultimately you will need to be based within a commutable distance to your relevant office.
