Job Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Finance Analyst to join our Finance team in our Head Office based in Marlow.

Reporting into the Business Controller who looks after South Territory and Carriers for customer sales and margin reporting, the role will assist with looking after Carriers invoices and complex reconciliations to internal systems, calculation and monitoring of some customer rebates and commissions, preparation of some month end accruals and reports and Balance Sheets Reconciliations. The role will also play an active part in supporting the sales team with finance queries and requests.

The Finance Analyst will play a key role in the provision of accurate, timely, and reliable day to day and month-end management accounting information as required, through the effective management of relationships and communications with internal stakeholders across the business.

In addition, you will be able to understand the fundamental steps within a system or process, identify areas of potential improvement, formulating and articulating proposals for realistic, workable improvements or solutions. Where required, you will also be expected to deputise for the Business Controller.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Processing of Purchase Orders for our main carrier (Royal Mail), reconciliation of invoices to monthly accounts and to weekly internal systems recording processed mailings.
  • Weekly reconciliation of other carriers invoices to costs allocated to them.
  • Assisting the Business Controller with creation and implementation of new checks, controls, and reconciliation.
  • Checking correct allocation of carrier costs to correct accounts and post correcting journals as required.
  • Monitoring of some customer rebates and commissions.
  • Liaising with customer service and sales teams for raising/ receiving of commissions and rebates, purchase orders, and/or credit notes.
  • Preparing and posting month-end journals.
  • Calculating and posting journals to accrue revenue for specific sales corrections, intercompany management fees on identified sales, and customers as required.
  • Preparing balance sheets reconciliations for commissions.
  • Assisting the Finance Network/Overhead team as required.

Additional Information

The working hours are fundamentally Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm with hybrid working opportunities. Flexibility is required at times to meet the need of the business.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload and work to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent and confident communicator.
  • Able to produce consistently accurate work with a high level of attention to detail even when working under pressure. A “right first time” mentality.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel including VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables, and other formulae.
  • Analytical skills – able to investigate and analyse data, identify trends, anomalies, and help determine their cause, with the confidence to question or challenge date or processes.
  • Typically, we would estimate that it would take between 1-2 years’ accounting experience or prior experience working within a Transactional Finance or accounts management function to acquire the skills required for this Finance Analyst role.

Desired Skills

Prior experience using Navision and Jet Reporting would be advantageous.
