Job Description

PETA Training are looking to source an exceptional Customer Service Advisor Apprentice for a leading independent builders merchant.

Our client have a proven track record in developing Apprentices. It is their mission to help Apprentices to achieve their potential and have a long term career within the organisation. The business has opportunities for Customer Service Apprentices within each of their branches based in the South and West of the region.

About the role

As a Customer Service Advisor Apprentice, you will be:

  • Learning about the products and services that the business offer to their customers. 
  • Getting to know customers, assessing and managing their requests
  • Dealing with both new and a regular clientele
  • Ordering stock accurately
  • Getting to know suppliers
  • Working closely with various departments and offering support to other branches
  • Communicating with peers and being part of the Apprenticeship Buddy initiative
  • Learning about and adhering to Health & Safety
  • Administrative duties
  • Communicating with customers face to face, via the phone and by email
  • Learning the Sales function and quotation function
  • Using the bespoke internal computer system

Training to be provided

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend one of PETA training centres for off-the- job training.  The majority of training will be completed with your employer at your place of work.

You will work towards the following qualification:

  • Customer Service Practitioner Level 2

Additional Information

Please note all applicants will be required to attend a pre-entry interview with PETA before an application can be progressed. The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £4.15 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training. Please be aware that this rate changes every year on 1 April and reference should be made to www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates for further information.

Essential Skills

To be considered for the Customer Service Advisor Apprentice role, you will require:

  • GCSE Maths grades A* – C or 4 – 9 or Functional Skills Level 2
  • GCSE English grades A* – C or 4 – 9 or Functional Skills Level 2

Desired Skills

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Some basic IT knowledge would be useful although training on internal systems will be given
  • Adequate Numeracy skills when pricing and quoting and understanding measurements in discussions with customers, this will get stronger over time
  • Logical
  • Ability to look for solutions as well as assistance if faced with challenges
