Alcohol Substance Misuse Nurse

Our team in Redcar and Cleveland are recruiting for an experienced Alcohol Substance Misuse Nurse, to join them in providing high quality recovery care to a diverse service user group. As a Alcohol and Substance Misuse Nurse you will be practicing with our new Thrive partnership.

The postholder will provide a range of health and wellbeing and harm reduction interventions to service users, in accordance with the agreed model of service delivery. As part of this role, you will plan, coordinate and support appropriate detoxification from drugs and/or alcohol, assessing the needs of service users and implementing and evaluating care plans. observations. You will support clients with alcohol reductions and assess suitability for community alcohol detoxification. It will be vital for you to develop strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders and commissioners for the continuity of service, as well as leading on providing community detoxification programmes, clinics and groups. 

You will be a compassionate and motivated nurse, with the ability to connect quickly with the people we support, treating them respectfully and with dignity. This is a busy team, with multiple priorities ongoing, so it’s important that you are highly organised and able to manage your time effectively. You will have sound experience of comprehensive assessment of need, including risk assessments and be able to implement and evaluate patient care and act accordingly if untoward changes occur. Working knowledge of substance misuse and an independent prescribing qualification would be advantageous, but we are open to conversations with all suitably qualified applicants. Essential Skills:

• Registered Nurse with valid registration via the NMC
• Completed pre registration  Registered Nurse training
• Demonstrable experience of comprehensive assessment of need including risk assessments
• Knowledge of safe storage, handling and administration of drugs in particular controlled drugs
• Knowledge and understanding of NMC code of conduct
• Knowledge of risk assessment and management and its implementation
• Understanding of the roles, responsibilities and structures of agencies involved in responding to drug and alcohol issues
• Demonstrable ability to work constructively with a wide variety of groups and individuals in a range of settings and work roles
• Ability to assess plans, implement and evaluate service user care and act accordingly if untoward changes occurred
• Ability to plan and prioritise own workload
• Ability to positive engage service users
• Ability to provide and accept feedback, support, clinical/managerial supervision
• Ability to treat services users with respect and dignity
• Effective written and communication skills
• Good IT skills

Desired Skills:

• Studied to Degree Level
• Post basic study covering substance misuse and blood borne viruses
• Qualified to perform immunisation and vaccinations
• Mentorship Course/ENB 998 or equivalent or willingness to undertake
